As I was looking into a life changing event, divorce, I was priviledged to take a workshop with Dr. Arthur Shapiro, a professor at the University of South Florida. At the beginning of this workshop, Dr. Shapiro had us take a short "vocabulary test" that really was a personality inventory. This fifteen minute test and it's follow-up workshop made a lasting impression on my life. My marriage wasn't saved, but I better understood many of the causes of difficulties in the marriage.

.Let me give you an example of our misunderstandings. My husband' s personality type uses the word "good" as an indicator of highest quality. My personality types use fantastic" to represent the same quality; good indicates just passing on my scale. Can you see that when he said I looked "good", I was unhappy ... I looked fantastic and I had worked hard to look that great. I felt that I could never please my husband and he never understood my unhappiness.This is just the beginning... Taking the Gregoric and studying these styles can change your life too.

Other personality inventories, like the Personality Puzzle, have made me even more aware of the differences in how we, as humans living on the same planet and maybe even in the same household, perceive the world. When you understand yourself and the others that you interact with better, your life becomes easier and you can even be happier in the same environment.

These tests require little time to take, but do require extensive study and coaching in order to really understand and benefit from their lessons. Both personality tests can be taken as an individual or in a group setting. It is more cost effective to use the tests in a group setting. When a personality inventory is used in individual therapy , a minimum of five hour-long sessions should be scheduled. These can be scheduled together or weeks apart. Some individuals and personality types are happier not having everyone else knowing their business and would benefit from individual sessions.
